Cast-Iron Fireplace Inner Frame with Rosette and Foliage — 129 cm

This original old cast-iron fireplace inner frame, measuring 129 cm wide, combines architectural clarity with French-inspired ornament. Positioned within a marble or stone mantel, it reduces the surround opening and provides a decorative transition to the fire opening.

Broad surfaces sweep inwards towards the almost square aperture, creating a strong sense of depth. Stepped mouldings trace both the outer perimeter and the inner edge. A floral rosette occupies the centre of the frieze, set within a circular medallion of concentric rings and fine beading. Leafy sprays extend symmetrically to either side. The uprights feature elongated arrangements of scrolling foliage and floral forms above restrained, undecorated plinths.

The finish reads as deep black to charcoal. Light moves across the sloping surfaces and picks out the raised ornament, while the recessed mouldings create dark shadow lines. Against white marble, the frame has a crisp graphic presence; warm beige limestone softens the contrast and suits rustic interiors with timber and linen. Contemporary furniture and modern art offer a quieter setting in which its historic detailing can become a distinctive focal point.

The frame is in good condition, with wear consistent with age and use, and is ready for installation. Old cast iron may exhibit slight twisting.
