Directoire Style Cast Iron Fireplace Inner Frame, 101 cm

This original antique cast iron fireplace inner frame pairs a clear architectural outline with decorative detail in the Directoire style. Measuring 101 cm wide, it bridges the space between the firebox and a marble or stone mantel, reducing the visible fireplace opening. A straight upper rail and broad side panels surround an almost square inner aperture.

A floral wreath crowns the composition, accompanied by a torch, quiver, foliage and curling ribbons. Slender, symmetrical foliate ornaments rise above the plain plinths on each side. A continuous relief border follows the inner opening, while fine outer mouldings give the frame a precise, layered outline.

The inward-sloping surfaces create depth beyond the raised ornament itself. Light travels across the black finish, revealing charcoal highlights against the darker recessed areas. White marble brings out its graphic quality, while beige limestone creates a warmer combination suited to a rustic interior.
